Frequently asked questions

Which distance should I choose? Expand

Choose your distance depending on your cycling ability and whether you think you will be able to complete the challenge. If you are an elite or very keen cyclist an Epic 850 km/miles in 85 days. If you are more of a causal rider then chose 85 km/miles in July. If you are planning to do the challenge with your family to get outdoors and do something together then 8.5km/miles in July is for you.

How can I complete my distance? Expand

You can complete your distance any way and any time you like as long as you begin the challenge in July. Whether going for a long ride on a weekend or short rides everyday through the week, it will all count towards your target.

How do I track my km/miles? Expand

Use a fitness track app or Fitbit to record your miles. Join the Strava Club and be proud as punch as you watch your distance increase with every ride out.

How do I fundraise? Expand

You can personalise your page, add photos, talk about what you’re doing and why, set a fundraising target and then send your page link to your friends, family and colleagues so that they can sponsor you easily and securely.

All money donated online is received directly into our bank account which means you do not have to spend time collecting in any money raised.

If you are having issues setting up your online fundraising page, please call our Supporter Care Team on 0300 303 1100

Is Gift Aid included in my sponsorship target? Expand

Our policy, like that of many other charities, is that Gift Aid is not included in sponsorship targets.

How and when do I receive my free snood and cycling jersey? Expand

You will receive your free snood once you have filled in the registration form and set up your fundraising page either as Facebook Fundraiser or on Just Giving.  Please allow at least two weeks from the date you register for this to be sent out in the post to you.

You will receive your free cycling jersey when you raise £250 or more. Please allow at least two weeks from this time for this to be sent out in the post to you.

What is the #850CyclingChallenge Facebook group? Expand

The #850CycleChallenge Facebook Group is a safe space for Kidney Research UK supporters who are taking part in the challenge to chat to fellow fundraisers, share experiences, stories, pictures and fundraising tips and get support to keep you motivated throughout the challenge.

We recommend that everyone taking part in the challenge joins the #850Cycling Facebook group.

Can I hold a raffle to raise some money? Expand

Raffles can be a great way of raising some additional money for your challenge. However, there are some strict rules governing how they can be run.

The simplest way to hold a raffle within the rules is to hold it alongside another event; a pub quiz for example. You will need to sell the tickets during your event, and the raffle has to be drawn and prizes given out on the same night. If you do a raffle this way, you won’t need a licence.

Can I fundraise with a friend? Expand

Yes absolutely, if there are two or more of you doing an event, then you can get together to raise your money.  Just remember that sponsorship targets are per person.
